What is the difference between an ART number and a CLG code?

An ART number is a product or archive reference used to identify information such as season, range and broad garment category. A CLG code is used with Certilogo for authentication.

What an ART number tells you

The classic numeric ART format has long been used by collectors to identify the production season, brand/range and broad garment category. Newer pieces use a different alphanumeric format, so the checker treats those separately.

01–02

Season code

On supported legacy numeric codes, the first two digits identify the season and year.

03–04

Brand / range

Examples include 15 for Stone Island, 16 for Stone Island Junior and 19 for Shadow Project.

Garment category

The next character gives a broad category such as jacket, knitwear, trousers or sweatshirt.

Where to find the ART number

Look on the internal care/wash label or original swing tag. Older pieces may show the code after “ART.” while many later labels show the code directly.

Legacy vs newer codes

Stone Island changed its product-code structure from 2025. We only decode newer prefixes that are sufficiently documented, and we show “unknown” rather than guessing when a code falls outside the supported structure.

Can an ART number authenticate Stone Island?

No. A plausible ART number can help identify what a garment is supposed to be, but it cannot establish that the physical item is genuine. For supported newer garments, use Stone Island’s official Certilogo authentication service.

What if the checker says part of my code is unknown?

Double-check the label carefully. Some older, special-edition or newer codes can sit outside the commonly documented structure. The checker deliberately avoids filling gaps with guesses.
